A Dream Come True

June 9, 2017

Hi all, Sarah Sedgwick here to introduce you to our third blogger.  This month's blog was written by our third "core" member, Stefanie DuRussell.  Stefanie was born and raised in DuBois, then spent many years near Harrisburg.  She has returned to DuBois with her husband, John, and their two pups.  Stefanie and John are creating outdoor gardens in the Red Mission House backyard and help maintain an aquaponic garden on the property of First United Presbyterian Church.  They have the ultimate "green thumbs" and this will help us offer homegrown greens and vegetables to our Soul Platter Cafe menu.  Here are some thoughts from our friend and organizer of The Soul Platter Cafe:

"Hope you have a few minutes for me to introduce myself.  It makes me choke up to think that I am going to be part of feeding people good food and meeting new faces in a new"pay what you can" style restaurant - The Soul Platter Cafe.

I've always wanted to own my own restaurant but really thought that dream passed me by.  When my husband and I decided to move back home to help take care of my parents, I started meeting with Erin, Sarah, and others who were interested in opening a healthy cafe.  This sparked my interest again! I have over 35 years of restaurant experience.  I also love to help people and have been known as a peacemaker from my friends.  I guess it's my turn to pay my blessings forward.

I love the idea of meeting new people and talking and cooking and meeting neighbors.  I look forward to teaching my love of cooking and sharing my passion for good food.  Erin ,Sarah and I are so excited about the cafe and the support we are getting is so exciting!  All I want to say is thank you and see you all very soon"

Stefanie, Erin, and Sarah are excited to train new volunteers who will embrace the core values of the Soul Platter Cafe and help us make it a place in our community where everybody matters.  If you want to learn more about opportunities to volunteer at the cafe, then attend our volunteer gathering on Thursday, June 29.  We'll have dinner starting at 5:30 pm, so come when you can, and the meeting will start around 6:15 pm.  We plan to have you out of the Red Mission House by 7 pm.

Find the event invite on our facebook page to RSVP or send us a message on facebook.  You can also email your RSVP to thesoulplattercafe@gmail.com.  We appreciate your reservation so we can plan out our menu for the evening.  Have a great day, food lovers!!
