The Soul Platter Cafe is an affiliate member of the One World Everbody Eats Foundation. As a member, we aim to follow the spirit of the organization’s SEVEN Core Values: •Pay-what-you-can pricing •Patrons choose their own portion size •Healthy, seasonal food is served whenever available •Patrons may volunteer in exchange for a meal •Volunteers are used to the maximum extent possible to staff the organization •Paid staff earn a living wage •A community table is offered.
As we get started, we will be utilizing volunteers exclusively and will be building a business plan while trying to open the cafe and get the word out. We want to serve good, quality food to anyone who walks through our doorway, regardless of their ability to pay. Yet, Soul Platter will look like any other restaurant and will draw patrons from all walks of life. We hope many of our patrons will embrace a “pay it forward” generosity, paying a little more for their meal to provide food for their neighbor who may find difficulty paying for a hot, healthy meal. Those in need will not be singled out -- and will be served with the same dignity and level of service and courtesy as all cafe patrons.
We will offer all patrons the opportunity to volunteer for small jobs or roles within our organization to fulfill its mission.
We aim to source local food when available and also showcase local food artisans, and growers. We look forward to partnerships with local farmers and bakers and to teach our community and our children about the importance of agriculture, food sources, and awareness of food’s impact within our bodies, in our town, to our economy, and on our planet.
